 Liability

     Upon arrival on move day, our crew leader will ask you to place a value on your belongings. Smart Moving Solutions' liability for any damages or losses will depend on the level of coverage you select. You must select your level of coverage and indicate your choice in writing on the Bill of Lading. The Bill of Lading is the official contract between Smart Moving Solutions and you. This selection must be made prior to the start of any of our moving services. The information below will help you understand the valuation coverage options available to you.

 Liability Options

Option A: Full Replacement Cost Valuation.
The Full Replacement Cost Valuation covers repairs, replacement or full reimbursement, minus a $200 deductible per every $5,000. The valuation coverage applies to all household goods while they are in our protection and care. If the item cannot be repaired, Smart Moving Solutions and Storage will replace it with the same or a similar item if the exact item is no longer available. If the item cannot be repaired or replaced, we will reimburse you based on the current cost upon obtaining proof of value.

Option B: 60 cents per pound per article.
This level of coverage is provided at no cost to you. It is the minimum coverage required by law. If your household goods are damaged or lost, Smart Moving Solutions and Storage is responsible for a maximum liability of 60 cents per pound per item. In the event that an item is damaged or lost, you are entitled to recover the depreciated value of the item or 60 cents multiplied by the weight of the item, whichever is less.

If your household goods are delivered to a storage facility, our liability contract will terminate at that time. It shall be your responsibility to inspect all items and record any losses or damages in the presence of the driver. If an item is missing or damaged you must make this notation in the Bill of Lading, this will help you file a claim later. Please note that such notations do not constitute a claim. A claim must be officially filed by calling our office. All claims must be filed within 15 days of the service date. Please do not dispose of or repair any damaged items without first obtaining our authorization. Smart Moving Solutions and Storage reserves the right to inspect all items. All packing materials should be kept and the item must be left in its packing container for appropriate inspection.

The following items are not covered by Smart Moving Solutions and Storage:
.• Items that have not been wrapped, packed and / or crated by Smart Moving Solutions and Storage.
• Pressboard or particle board furniture.
• Plants (live, dried or artificial).
• Electronics not physically damaged.
• Previously damaged or repaired items, including loose veneer and dried-out glue.
• If any given item is part of a set, only that specific item will be covered, not the entire set.
• Items of extraordinary value not listed on the High Value Inventory List.
